Is the new Xiamoi Zigbee 3.0 Hub and Sensor as good as it sounds?

Aqara has officially announced the M2 HomeKit hub but to make things even better, they have announced Zigbee 3.0 compatible sensors and switches. Is the new Xiamoi Zigbee 3.0 Hub and Sensor as good as it sounds?

Aqara has officially announced the M2 HomeKit hub but to make things even better, they have announced Zigbee 3.0 compatible sensors and switches. If you’re looking for a Xiaomi Smart Home Gateway, This blog post should be key to yourself.

Whilst this may not sound like a big deal, but hopefully, I can compress this down into bite-sized chunks and explain why it’s GREAT!

Aqara M2 HomeHub

So, to start with, the new M2 Hub can actually support more than three times the prior amount of Zigbee devices which comes to around 100 devices (The prior hub being at 30 devices).

The M2 Hub supports Zigbee, WiFi, and Bluetooth. You’ll also get access to Ethernet Connection via the RJ45 Port.

What about the HomeKit Aqara Door Lock?

The Aqara S2 Pro Door Lock is getting an upgrade and it will be supported by HomeKit which is great, I assume this will include Home Assist.

To go along with this, Aqara has officially announced their new T1 Switches and Sensors and Smart Plugs.

The new ZigBee 3.0 Light Switches

Aqara also revealed a new version of their wall switches, they will use Zigbee 3.0 and come in both single and double switch formats, additionally, there will also be a new triple button wall switch (Juicy, I know 😉 ).

There will be an in-wall wired version but no wireless switches, there are both neutral and non-neutral wire versions and the switches will support Zigbee 3.0.

The most exciting part – Curtain Motors

As many of you know, I’m in the middle of making my blinds automated as cheap as possible, however, the B1 Smart Curtain Controller will now work with Homekit via both the current Awara Hub and the new M2 Hub (Great news for those not looking to upgrade).
