An Amazon Echo device flashing yellow isn’t a bad sign, this simply means that you have a notification. This can be for a range of reasons from order purchases to a message from an Alexa Contact.

This should not be mistaken with a spinning yellow light, this means that the device is connecting to your Wi-Fi Network.

What Notifications does Amazon send to my Echo Device?

Having a yellow flashing on Amazon Echo means you have a notification from an Amazon service, there’s a variant of different notifications you can get which are:

  • Account Alerts – These are considered important messages which relate to your account activity that Amazon would send your account with them
  • Shipment Updates – Usually on the day your purchase from Amazon is due to arrive, you will get a notification stating the rough time it should arrive.
  • Product Recommendations – These will be personalized notifications based on prior purchases and shopping searches. These can be turned off in your Alexa settings.
  • Watching & Wishlist Deals – If you’ve ever added something to your watching or wishlist, Amazon will notify you of “Lightning Deals” which occur mostly during Black Friday and Prime Day.
  • Alexa Dash Shopping – Amazon Dash is a service for reordering supplies, Alexa will notify you of these too!

How do I disable Alexa’s yellow light

Sometimes getting those notifications can just be a pain in the backside, asking Alexa what notifications you have left will get rid of the yellow ring until the next set of notifications.

If you want to disable the Alexa Notifications, simply follow these steps:

  • Open the Amazon Alexa App on your Smartphone (iPhone or Android Phone)
  • Select the “More” Option in the bottom right
  • Select “Settings”
  • Select “Notifications”
  • Select “Amazon Shopping”
  • You can now toggle varying notifications on and off such as “Out for Delivery” or “Delivered” Notifications.

How to hide Alexa orders

If you’ve ordered someone a present for their Birthday, Christmas, or any other event you’ll probably want to hide the notifications specifically for order updates. This means Alexa will only update you if you ask “Alexa, Where’s my stuff”.

To hide your recent orders from Alexa Notifications, follow these steps:

  • Open the Amazon Alexa App on your Smartphone (iPhone or Android Phone)
  • Select the “More” Option in the bottom right
  • Select “Settings”
  • Select “Notifications”
  • Select “Amazon Shopping”
  • There will be a section labelled “Say or Show Item Titles”, disable this to avoid Alexa saying the name of recent orders.
